Daleel reads the ingredients panel of a packaged food from a photo you take. This policy explains what leaves your phone, why, and what stays on it. Daleel is built to need as little data as possible: there is no account, no sign-up, and no email address.
1. What we collect, and what we do not
- No account. Daleel has no sign-up, no login and no profile. We do not ask for your name, email address or phone number.
- The photo of an ingredients panel. When you read a panel, that one photo is sent over HTTPS to Daleel’s reading service, which passes it to an AI vision model to transcribe the ingredients. Daleel’s API handlers do not write the photo or transcription to a database or content archive. The ruling itself is worked out on your phone. Processing by hosting and AI providers is explained below.
- Questions to the assistant. Questions you type to the assistant, together with recent messages in that conversation, are sent through the same service to produce an answer. Daleel’s API handlers do not save that conversation to a database or content archive.
- Optional usage counts. App analytics are off by default. If you enable “Share basic usage counts” in Positions, the app can send a limited set of app-open and subscription-flow event names to PostHog. Caller-supplied event properties are discarded. These events do not include photos, readings, ruling results, ingredient text, product names, questions or religious positions. Person profiles, session replay and screen tracking are disabled. The analytics service uses an SDK identifier and may process technical metadata; these are not a promise of complete anonymity. You can turn this option off in Positions.
- Subscription verification. RevenueCat manages purchases using an app user ID rather than a Daleel login. The paid service requires that ID and the device platform to check the subscription with RevenueCat. The API keeps a hash of the ID and request counts briefly in server memory to limit usage. Photos, conversations and religious positions are not sent to RevenueCat for this check.
2. What stays on your phone
Your notebook (the photos and readings you keep) and your chosen positions on the questions scholars differ on are stored only on your device by the app. Daleel does not sync your notebook or upload your chosen positions. The individual photo you submit for reading still leaves your phone for AI processing. The register of additives and ingredients is built into the app and works offline. Device backups and transfers are governed by your operating system and its settings.
3. Service providers
We use a small number of providers who process data on our behalf:
- Vercel hosts the website and the API handlers that relay photos and conversations for AI processing and check subscriptions. Hosting infrastructure may process request metadata, including IP addresses, timestamps and diagnostic information. Website analytics measure page visits and download-button clicks separately from the optional app usage counts.
- OpenRouter and the AI model provider it routes to transcribe panel photos and answer assistant questions. The current code defaults to Google Gemini for panel transcription and OpenAI GPT-4o-mini for assistant answers; server configuration can change the models. Retention, logging and use of request content depend on OpenRouter settings and the selected model provider’s terms. A stateless Daleel relay does not guarantee zero retention by these providers or that they never use content for training. See OpenRouter’s privacy policy and its provider logging documentation. Avoid including personal or sensitive information in photos or questions.
- RevenueCat — manages subscription status using an app user ID and purchase information. Its records are separate from your local notebook.
- Apple and Google — process subscription payments. We never receive your payment-card details.
- PostHog receives the optional app usage counts described above when you enable them and analytics are configured.
Daleel shows no ads. We do not sell data, and we do not use it for advertising.
4. Deleting your data
Delete a notebook entry in the app to remove its local reading and saved photo. Removing the app removes its local data, subject to your device’s backup and restore behavior. This does not delete billing records, analytics already sent or records retained by service providers. Turning off optional usage counts stops new app events; it does not erase earlier events. Contact us about provider-held data or deletion requests. Daleel has no user account or server-side notebook to delete.
5. Security
Photos and questions are sent over encrypted (HTTPS) connections. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information.
6. Children
Daleel is not directed to children under 13, or the minimum age in your country, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your data, or to object to certain processing. Contact us with any request or question about these rights.
8. Changes
We may update this policy. Material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date above.
